All Saints Church, Clive, tucked under Grinshill (half-way between the Shrewsbury - Wem road (A528 + B5476) and the Shrewsbury - Whitchurch road (A49) on Sunday 11th December at 6.30pm promised to provide one of those magical moments of Christmas. The Phoenix Singers of Shrewsbury, recuperating from their memorable performance of the Monteverdi Vespers in St. Chad's Shrewsbury in November, gave a short programme of Christmas carols and readings, under the baton of their Deputy Conductor Pam Pickford. The audience took part in some well known carols; the choir sang arrangements by their former conductor, Richard White, and other settings. Members of the choir interspersed appropriate readings, ranging from Laurie Lee to Dietrich Bonheoffer, and one lovely poem composed by a singer herself. David Hardie played a merry tune on the organ. Mince pies and mulled wine rounded off the communal evening.
